Somali Emergency and Critical Care Training Center (SECCTC)

A national hub for high-quality training, research, and capacity building in emergency preparedness, trauma care, disaster management, and critical care across Somalia.

Established as a collaborative national initiative led by Somali medical professionals and strategic partners, the SECCTC is Somalia’s dedicated hub for high-quality training, research, and capacity building in emergency and critical care.

It responds to the country’s complex and recurrent health emergencies disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and the impact of conflict through four integrated focus areas: emergency preparedness, health system resilience, research and innovation, and partnerships.

The Center strengthens Somalia’s ability to respond to emergencies while building a sustainable, competent, and responsive health workforce.

A National Hub for Emergency Care

SECCTC bridges Somali medical professionals, academic institutions, and international partners to deliver accredited training in emergency, trauma, and critical care building a network of skilled professionals capable of supporting emergency response at national and sub-national levels, including underserved and remote regions.

From Training to a Resilient Health System

The Center facilitates operational research and data-driven approaches, integrates emergency and critical care into medical curricula, and supports rapid response teams translating evidence into national policy and a scalable, sustainable model that improves the quality and accessibility of emergency care.

Strategic Objectives

Deliver targeted, competency-based training programs in emergency medicine, trauma care, disaster management, and critical care.
Develop a network of trained professionals capable of supporting emergency response at national and sub-national levels, including underserved and remote regions.
Facilitate operational research and data-driven approaches to improve emergency and critical care practices, and generate evidence to inform national policies.
Build strong partnerships with academic institutions, government bodies, and international organizations to advance emergency and critical care in Somalia.
Deliver training-of-trainers and mentorship programs, integrate emergency and critical care into curricula, and support a scalable, nationally owned training model.
Train government health workers and community volunteers, establish rapid response teams, and improve the accessibility of emergency and trauma care for communities affected by emergencies and disasters.
